Swim Lessons at Willowood

Our highly respected swim lesson program is open to both members and the local community.

At Willowood, we believe that swimming is an essential life skill for children. Not only is it a fun activity and a great source of exercise, but it also plays a critical role in water safety. Learning to swim can truly save a life.

Who Can Participate?

  • Lessons are available for children ages 3 and up.
  • If your child is only 3, please consider whether they can follow instructions and cooperate in a small group setting (3 children per instructor) before registering.

Session Details

  • Each participant will receive a personalized evaluation and a certificate of completion at the end of the session.
  • Class sizes are limited, so we encourage early registration to secure a spot.
  • To minimize distractions, parents are asked to remain on the grass near the Manager’s office during lessons.

Final Lesson & Special Activities

On the last day of the session, children will have the exciting opportunity to go down the slide and jump off the diving board as part of their progress celebration!

Interested in Private Lessons?

We also offer one-on-one swim lessons for those looking for personalized instruction. More details and signup will begin after the pool has opened for the season.

Swim Lesson Levels

Our swim program is designed to help swimmers build confidence and develop essential water safety and swimming skills at their own pace.

Level 1: Water Comfort & Safety

  • Focuses on basic water safety and helping swimmers feel comfortable in the water.
  • Introduces positive swimming habits and safe practices in and around the pool.
  • Swimmers may begin their lessons in the wading (baby) pool to gradually build confidence.

Level 2: Fundamental Skills

  • Builds on basic water skills by teaching swimmers to float without support and regain a vertical position.
  • Introduces independent front and back swimming without assistance.

Level 3: Stroke Development & Water Survival

  • Provides additional guided practice to refine skills.
  • Introduces survival floating, seated diving, and treading water.
  • Swimmers learn freestyle, elementary backstroke, scissor kick, and dolphin kick.

Level 4: Stroke Proficiency & Endurance

  • Enhances confidence in previously learned strokes while introducing advanced techniques.
  • Swimmers refine freestyle and elementary backstroke, increasing endurance with longer distances.
  • Teaches backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and basic flip turns.

Each level is structured to ensure swimmers gain the skills and confidence needed to progress safely and successfully. If you’re unsure which level is best for your child, our instructors are happy to help with placement!
